Cathodic protection and corrosion control

Cathodic protection and corrosion control

Technical services

Every year, significant volumes of oil and gas products are transported through pipelines. In this regard, Iran has the largest pipeline transmission network in the Middle East. The continuous expansion and development of transmission pipelines and natural gas distribution networks across the country, as well as the potential hazards arising from gas leakage and explosions caused by pipeline corrosion, make stricter and more accurate control over the construction, operation and maintenance of transmission and distribution networks essential.

To prevent the deterioration of equipment and oil and gas transmission pipelines, cathodic protection can be employed. This method prevents or reduces metal corrosion by applying an external direct electrical current or by connecting the structure to a more easily corroded “sacrificial” metal, so that the metal to be protected behaves as a cathode.

The initial costs associated with coating equipment and installing cathodic protection systems not only prevent future side effects and hazards, but also reduce the costs of replacing components, repairs, and compensation for damages and losses, thereby making the installation of such systems economically justifiable.

Industrial & Engineering Inspection Co. of Iran (IEI), by employing highly qualified and specialized experts in this field, has played a significant role in major national projects, including leading refineries and petrochemical complexes in Iran.

Cathodic protection services in the company’s projects typically include: engineering design and drawings, procurement of materials and equipment, and system installation.

Benefits of cathodic protection and corrosion control:

  • Increasing the service life of equipment and distribution networks

  • Reducing losses and costs resulting from corrosion

  • Reducing environmental damage caused by premature failure and disposal of equipment
